Raising a Generation That Knows God

Our children are growing up in a world unlike any previous generation. Every day they are surrounded by smartphones, social media, artificial intelligence, gaming, streaming platforms, and endless digital voices competing for their attention.

Technology itself is not the enemy.

The greater question is:

Who is discipling our children?

If we do not intentionally shape their hearts with God’s truth, the digital world will gladly shape them with its values.

The goal of Christian parenting has never been simply to raise successful children. Our greatest calling is to raise children who know God, love God, trust God, and follow Him throughout their lives.

As Proverbs 22:6 reminds us:

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Build Their Identity Before the World Does

The internet constantly tells children who they should be.

God already has.

Help your children understand that their worth does not come from:

• Followers
• Likes
• Popularity
• Appearance
• Athletic ability
• Academic success

Their identity begins with this truth:

“I am loved by God.”

Teach them often:

• I am created in God’s image.
• I belong to Jesus.
• I have purpose.
• God has good plans for my life.
• I never have to earn God’s love.

Children who know their identity are far less likely to seek validation from strangers online.

Create a Home That Welcomes God’s Presence

Children often learn more from what parents practice than from what parents preach.

Create simple rhythms that invite God into everyday life.

Consider making time for:

• Family prayer
• Reading Scripture together
• Worship music in the home
• Gratitude conversations at dinner
• Serving others together
• Talking about where you saw God at work today

Faith becomes natural when children see it lived consistently.

Teach Wisdom Before Technology

Many parents focus only on screen limits.

Wise parents also teach discernment.

Ask questions like:

• Does this help me grow closer to God?
• Is this true?
• Is it kind?
• Is it honoring?
• Would Jesus enjoy watching this with me?
• Does this build my faith or weaken it?

Technology changes.

Biblical wisdom never does.

Help Them Hear God’s Voice Above Every Other Voice

Today’s children hear thousands of voices every week.

Influencers.

Advertisements.

Friends.

Algorithms.

The Holy Spirit speaks differently.

Teach your children to slow down.

Create moments for quiet prayer.

Encourage journaling.

Read Scripture together.

Teach them that God still speaks through His Word and leads His children with wisdom and peace.

Guard Their Hearts

Proverbs 4:23 says:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Screens shape hearts.

Conversations shape hearts.

Relationships shape hearts.

Parents should lovingly monitor not only what children watch but also what captures their hearts.

Pay attention to:

• Their emotions
• Their friendships
• Their fears
• Their online habits
• Their questions
• Their spiritual growth

A guarded heart becomes fertile soil for God’s truth.

Model the Life You Want Them to Live

Children notice far more than we realize.

If we want children who:

• Love Scripture…
• let them see us reading it.

If we want children who pray…

• let them hear us praying.

If we want children who use technology wisely…

• let them watch us put our phones down.

Parents are often their child’s first picture of God’s love.

Five Simple Daily Habits

Try practicing these every day:

1. Pray together before the day begins.
2. Read one Bible verse together.
3. Share one gratitude.
4. Have one screen-free family conversation.
5. End the day asking, “Where did you see God today?”

Small daily habits often produce lifelong spiritual roots.

Reflection Questions for Parents

• What voices influence my child the most?
• Does my home make it easy to talk about God?
• How am I modeling faith each day?
• What digital habits need to change in our family?
• How can I intentionally disciple my child this week?

A Prayer for Parents

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for entrusting these precious children to our care. Give us wisdom to lead with love, courage to establish healthy boundaries, and grace to model authentic faith. Help our children know Your voice above every other voice in this world. Strengthen their hearts, renew their minds, and protect them from influences that pull them away from You. May they grow into young men and women who love You wholeheartedly and shine Your light wherever they go.
